This 2003 profile catches Frenchy early in his New Orleans years, running the Frenchy Gallery on Royal Street in the French Quarter. Glide follows the path from Lowell, Massachusetts to Orlando, where he waited tables, bought a Herman Leonard book of jazz photographs and, in October 1995, painted his first live show with the Heavy Metal Horns.
The year before, he had his own tent at Bonnaroo among more than 70,000 fans and painted nearly every act, from Particle's early morning set to the Trey Anastasio Band's four-hour closer, plus Phil & Friends with Bob Weir. Glide describes his quick, small brush strokes and his habit of working from inside the crowd. It also covers his print releases, most of them limited edition serigraphs on archival paper, with subjects including P-Funk, Widespread Panic and The Meters.
